Portraiture, in all Mediums

Susannah Talley

Mrs. Talley is a dedicated portrait photographer and painter, whose clients often ask her if one of the finishing details can be a portrait.

“Without intentionally styling them as such, many of my portraits resonate the moods of painters works I studied in Art History. A mother with her naked baby on her lap evokes a Titian, a young girl in a pink and white dress standing by a window reminds me of Vermeer. My self-portraits including one image below with my daughters, Isabelle and Philippa—who were the epitome of patience with their Mom’s photographic experiments—are styled in the tradition of Sargent, as is a portrait of friends of mine in their backyard with their impish daughter stealing the show. All of my work is done with the play of natural light, using large cameras or my simple Lumix.”
