It's All In The Details

"Detailing such as; upholstery fabric outlined or vermicelli quilted (as seen here) and contrast velvet welting—or perhaps a favorite phrase stitched on a pillow, are smart touches that bring added interest to a room.

My clients' personalities are a large part of the decor by way of photographs, embroidered pillows, massive Playbill collections, favorite books, a well-tuned piano, flowers, displayed travel artifacts, or even framed ‘New Yorker’ cartoons. If a room lacks the interests of its clients, it looks soulless.

Surprisingly, detailing can come down to an element as simple as a fragrance…

Boston’s former Ritz Carlton was once a stone’s throw from my office. Each time I entered its doors, a most remarkable scent that so represented the hotel’s elegant ambiance, took hold of me. Years later I researched the scent, a product made by Edco, and discovered an obscure cottage industry in New Jersey bought the rights. I became a dedicated patron allowing me to enter my home with that nostalgic glee of stepping into the Ritz."
